Becoming a member of the CIHT Council gives you an opportunity to do just that. You will find the experience both enjoyable and rewarding, as Council Membership offers you the chance to give something back to the industry and to network with fellow professionals.
As a Council Member you will have unparalleled opportunities to meet informally with others in the profession, contractors, consultants, or public authority people. You will also have the opportunity to determine the strategic and professional direction of your Institution and play a key role in influencing CIHT Policy.
All Council Members serve both on the Council and on one of six CIHT Boards, Membership, Member Services, Education, Network and Infrastructure Management, Procurement & Delivery or Transport Policy. Council Members assume responsibility for a part of their Board’s activities. Council and Board meetings are held four times a year, usually on the same day.
You can seek a nomination as either an Ordinary Member or as a Branch Representative.
Branch Committees usually coordinate the nomination of Branch Representatives and if you are thinking of standing you should contact your Branch Secretary.
You will need to be proposed by eight fully paid up Members or Fellows of the Institution (not Students or Associate Members) whose signatures are needed on your nomination form. You will also need to send in a photograph, which we reproduce along with a short career summary in Transportation Professional. When completing your career summary it is useful to bring out your previous service for CIHT and your particular interest in standing.
To put your name forward to become a member of the Council please email brian.murrell@ciht.org.uk for a nomination form.
The closing date for nominations is 19th February 2010.
If there is more than one Branch Member nomination from each branch, a ballot of members in the respective branch will be held. If there are more nominations for Ordinary Members than vacancies, a ballot of the membership will take place. Ballot material will be sent out with the April issue of Transportation Professional. Votes will be counted by the single transferable vote system and the results will be announced at the AGM in June each year.
If you are elected, then you will serve for three years from the AGM date. The first meeting of the year will take place in September 2010.
