The Institution of Highway & Transportation

Young Professionals Committee

The Greater London Branch of CIHT has set up a Young Professionals Committee (YPC), with the primary aim of representing the interests of younger members of the Institution.

As well as contributing to the Institution’s objective of being a learned multi-modal transport institution, the YPC would like to hear Young Members views and opinions concerning key transport issues and on how the CIHT can better cater for their needs.

We are aiming to hold a number of informal get-togethers this year to provide the opportunity for younger members to meet, both for general networking and to exchange views and ideas, possibly (probably) over a beer or two. We are also looking to organise a series of events regarding routes to Professional Qualifications (C.Eng, I.Eng, TPP) and mentoring.

The YPC is not just aimed at Graduates and Planners/Engineers in their first few years of work. Our aim is to capture the views and opinions of all Transport Professionals up to the age of 35 (although there is no strict cut-off for “Young”...!), so please get in touch!

Young Professionals represent 34% of the total Greater London Branch membership

Aims and Objectives of the Young Professional Committee

The YPC has the following aims:
  • To represent the views and act as a voice for Younger Members of the Institution;
  • To promote the Institution as a professional body;
  • To assist transport planners and engineers in the early stages of their career, through their professional development, in order to achieve qualified status;
  • To encourage new members into the institution by promoting the benefits of joining CIHT and providing opportunities for young members to network with fellow young professionals.
If you have any comments or suggestions for future events/ activities or would like to join the Young Professionals Committee, please contact greaterlondon@ciht.org.uk
