Bachar is the Technical Director at URS/Scott Wilson. He provides technical advice on transportation infrastructure covering the complete life cycle of research, design, materials specification, performance monitoring and evaluation, and maintenance management.
He has carried out several pavement design reviews and failure investigations; advised on design and maintenance standards, highways network privatisation, asset management, whole life costing, sustainability and carbon modelling.

Dr Yue Huang's expertise centres on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and sustainable construction and maintenance of transport infrastructure. Yue provides advice on the LCA and carbon measurement of road construction and using recycled materials, to both UK and European clients. He has been involved in the pavement evaluation for UK motorways and trunk roads. Yue also has experience of highway design, traffic simulation, and laboratory based material testing, through work and BEng and MSc courses.

Dr. Nick Thom has been a member of the academic staff of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham since 1991 as well as acting as a consultant to UK design firm Scott Wilson. He continues to be extensively involved in research in both highway and railway engineering as well as leading the railway engineering teaching. In addition to authoring numerous technical papers he has now published a textbook on the subject of pavement engineering.

Job title: Research Officer, Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre, University of Nottingham

James has been working for the last five and a half years at the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Nottingham. Since September 2007 he has been a Research Officer.
In this role his work has involved some lecturing and teaching as part of the Pavement Materials and Advanced Pavement Materials modules, supervision of PhD and Masters students, project management and research project work and has been involved in several Task Groups associated with asphaltic materials as part of the RILEM organisation (The International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures).
Originally he was employed as a Research Fellow working on an EPSRC funded project the ‘Development and FE Implementation of a Non-Linear Constitutive Model for Asphalt’. He obtained a BEng (Hons) degree in Metallurgy and Materials Technology from the University of Birmingham. He went on to complete a PhD in Metallurgy and Materials on ‘The effect of Macroalloying on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of g-based Titanium Aluminides’.
Before attending University he also worked at Nuclear Electric for a year as part of the Year in Industry Scheme. He has been involved with the Midlands Branch Committee since the beginning of 2008, particularly part of the Social Committee.

Mujib is a chartered engineer with more than fifteen years professional experience as a researcher and consultant. During this period, Mujib has contributed to over hundred projects, duration from few days fixing troubleshooting to co-ordinating design team for multimillion pound schemes, and has gained in depth experience on project management as well as expertise on design and maintenance aspects of structure and pavement engineering.

Joined Loughborough University in 1992, as Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering. Previously Research Associate at Southampton University (1987-1988), Teaching Company Associate 1988-1990 (Geotechnics LTD/LU), and Geotechnical Engineer at Leonard Threadgold Consulting Engineers (1990-1992). Industrial experience primarily was in site investigation, geotechnical design, ground instrumentation and monitoring, compaction control, engineering fill, and general construction related groundworks.
Dr Fleming is the co-author of new national guidance on the 'Good Practice' use of Lightweight Deflectometers and runs 1 day training courses on their use and testing.

John has over 40 years experience in Civil, Highway, Transportation, Bridge, Airfield and Port Engineering works, the last 28 at senior management level with responsibility for policy formulation, project management and direction both in the private and public sectors.
Prior to joining Waterman as Regional Director East Midlands in 2005, he held Project Director position with Scott Wilson and Pell Frischmann for the Highways Agency Consultancy Frameworks for Design Services Commissions and was particularly responsible for overseeing the preparation of model ECI contract documentation and geotechnical Frameworks Agreements for the HA. From 1999 as Director (Civils and Structures) for De Leuw Rothwell(Pell Frischmann from 2001), he was responsible for civil, structures, railway and nuclear engineering business units with assignments in the UK and overseas.
In the public sector he rose to the position of Principal Assistant County Surveyor for Derbyshire CC with responsibility for formulating county transportation policy, highways, development control, traffic management, major highway and bridge maintenance policy and maintenance operation management. He was also the engineering manager for the East Midlands Airport.
He has written, presented and published several technical papers, holds the ICE Medal for Best Paper 1983 and represented ICE on the Cabinet Office (Office of Science and Technology) 1994 Foresight Programme for Construction Innovation to 2020. He is a Council Member of the Institution of Highways and Transportation and Chairman of the Sustainable Transport Panel. In this role he was the Managing Editor of the IHT Guide ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Transport-the challenge for transport professionals’, Oct 2008.
He is also member of the ICE Transport Board and on behalf of both Institutions has been particularly involved in the development and implementation of sustainable transport systems including climate change mitigation and adaptation issues in an advisory capacity to government departments.
