The branch has been long associated with Golf; competition for the Stephen Plews Trophy and Cup (for members and guests respectively) is an annual event on the branch programme. First presented in 1974 at the Ponteland Golf Club, the competition has been held over a number of courses in the region including Bishop Auckland and Prudhoe.
