Mike is Traffic and Transportation Service Manager at Wirral Council. He helped to establish the inaugural Young Professional Committee for the North Western Branch. Mike is the current Chair of the Branch and is a member of the Events Sub Committee. Mike is keen to encourage wider participation at the events and activities that the Branch provides, he is keen to find improved methods to communicate with the Branch membership and promote routes to professional development.

16 years postgraduate experience and nearly 2 years of undergraduate work placements in departments of both statutory bodies and private consultancies have seen me being part of projects that have covered a broad range of sectors including telecomms, wastewater, infrastructure and highway schemes. These have covered a wide sector and stage base from residential to nuclear & masterplanning to construction and taken me UK wide as well as several overseas assignments.
Currently employed by URS/Scott Wilson I am responsible for design and delivery of a number of varied road and infrastructure projects as well as assisting in the preparation of bid submissions and presentations.
Most recently I have been part of the CIHT NW Golf Team that won the 2010 running of the Locan Cup, a National event where all regions compete for a trophy first presented in 1947.
Peter is an Executive Director of the Denis Wilson Partnership. He is responsible for the Manchester and Leeds offices.Peter is a Fellow member of the IHT and first joined the Institution shortly after graduation in 1988. In addition to his role as Chairman, Peter sits on the Branch membership sub-committee and organises both the annual Branch Golf event and the Branch team participation in the National Locan Cup Golf event.

Born in Nantwich in 1965, after attending Leeds Polytechnic, James joined the Major Roads Design Unit of Cheshire County Council in July 1986. During the next seven years, his time was largely spent working on the design of the A34 Handforth and Wilmlsow Bypass, which was the largest single new-build highways project that the authority had ever undertaken. Having worked on the development of this project, James then had the opportunity to spend three years out on site as part of the team supervising its construction. Following the completion of the A34 scheme, James than had stints with the County Council's Environmental Engineering and Road Maintenance Units .
In 2003 he moved to pastures new in the form of Liverpool City Council where he played a major role in the numerous highways projects that were helping to regenerate that great city. However, after two years James returned to Cheshire to take up the post as Area Highways Manager for the Congleton District. In September 2009 he took up his current post as Head of External Engineering at Manchester Airport.
A Member since 1999, in addition to being a member of the North-western Branch, James is also a Professional Reviewer for the IHT and has now taken part on approaching 30 reviews.
Away from work, James lives with his long-standing partner Claire and their Labrador Retriever, Hector. A long suffering fan of Northwich Victoria FC, his other interests include cricket, music, gardening, birdwatching, cooking and real ale
Tim Davies is the Maritime Director for Royal Haskoning’s Liverpool Office which he opened in 2005 having been originally based at their head office in Peterborough. Tim has over 30 years experience in the Maritime industry working on a verity of projects around the world. He has carried out various roles including project management, port master planning, preparing accident damage reports and managing major re-builds of quay structures, dolphin, linkspan and passenger walkway structures. In more recent years he has specialised in Passenger Access facilities in the cruise industry along with cruise terminal designs as well as the Roll-on Roll-off vehicle and foot passengers ferry market, covering all aspects of the projects from the concept design through to managing the detailed design and tender documentation. His knowledge and experience on the operational needs of Port facilities allows him to provide an insight into future trends with regard to road transport access needs needs and integrated hubs along with the concept for highways on the seas.

Brian is a Chartered Engineer and a Management Consulting Professional and currently advising Manchester City Council on the delivery of their Highways Capital Programme
Lance was, until recently, a Managing Consultant with Atkins based in their Manchester offices but has now set up his own independent consultancy, Arena Associates Ltd. He specialises in road safety, traffic and transportation engineering having spent over 30 years in this work. Prior to that he was involved in motorway design and construction. He has worked in both the public and private sectors both in the UK and overseas in Qatar and Indonesia. He frequently lectures on Road Safety and associated topics and also acts as a Science and Engineering Ambassador for SETPOINT, a charity which encourages school-leavers to consider careers in those industries.

Nasar is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IHT. He is a director at Atkins and has twenty five years experience across a wide range of transport projects. He has appeared as an expert witness at numerous public inquiries in the UK and in Ireland and has presented evidence to the Transport Select Committee. Nasar is the NW Branch delegate to Council and is a member of the IHT’s Education Board having previously been a member of the Transport Policy Board. He is also a member of the IHT’s Diversity Panel and is a reviewer for the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification.

After graduating from Liverpool Hope University, Vicky worked in the Road Safety Education, Training and Publicity Team as a pedestrian skills coordinator and team member, giving her an understanding of the workings of Road Safety and Transportation as a whole. This then lead to Vicky’s current position in the Road Safety Engineering Team, of which she has been a team member for just over 2 and a half years as a technician.

Lindsey has seven years of experience in Transport Planning and Engineering. She studied Civil Engineering at the University of Liverpool and subsequently undertook an MSc in Transport Engineering and Planning at the University of Salford. Lindsey currently works for Mott MacDonald in their Liverpool office. Responsibilities include the project management and preparation of transport assessments, travel plans and access studies for a range of developments. Lindsey was the winner of the CIHT North-West Regional Colas Paper, 2011.
Hide BiographyLuke’s current role is Principal Engineer at Knowsley Borough Council where he is responsible for the delivery of the Highways Capital Programme. He is in his final year of studying part-time towards an MSc in Transport Planning & Engineering at Salford University. He has previously worked in the Road Safety Engineering teams at Liverpool City Council and Cheshire County Council.
Hide BiographyAfter graduating from Lancaster University with a Geography degree Emily worked at the North Wales Trunk Road Agency as a technical assistant and developed a flavour for transport and engineering. For the last three years Emily has been working at Transportation Planning Partnership (TPP) in Wilmslow as a Transport Planner/Engineer, whilst studying part time at the University of Salford towards an MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering.

Claire is currently working in Highway Maintenance at Liverpool City Council developing the Highway Asset Management Plan and the Surface Water Management Plan and working on flood risk management. She studied Maths at the University of Bristol and is currently undertaking an MSc in Transport Engineering and Planning at the University of Salford.

Chris has over 40 years experience in the construction of transport infrastructure. He is a civil engineer who, since graduating from Durham University in 1971, has pursued his career wholly in contracting, the majority of the time in highway construction.
After four years with Costain as a graduate engineer, he joined AMEC (Fairclough) in 1975 and transferred to Morgan Sindall in 2007 following the acquisition of AMEC DPS by Morgan Sindall.
He now holds the post of Business Development Manager for Morgan Sindall and is based in Manchester.
Chris joined the North Western Branch Committee in 1995. He was Branch Chairman for the year 1999/2000. A former vice-chair of Member Services Board, he chaired the Education Board in its first two years. He was installed as President of the Institution in June 2009 for the year 2009/10. He is Chair of the newly formed Appian Trading Ltd, the board that oversees the Institution’s trading activities.
Married to Janet, Chris has three adult sons, a research chemist, a pilot and a computer games software programmer. He enjoys literature, theatre and walking and lives in Cheshire

Alistair is a Director of Haydock Young Consultancy, which provides public and private sector clients with a wide range of management and engineering advice. He is also a Director of AlderCross Training & Events, which organises conferences, in-house training etc, and AlderCross Developments, which operates in the residential property market.
Alistair first joined the IHT Council in 1996. He was President in 2006-07.

Peter Hallsworth is a North West boy educated in Bury and Liverpool.
After graduating he moved to the East Midlands. He delivered a series of major motorway maintenance schemes in Leicestershire and developed new forms of contra-flow traffic management and introduced the Continuous Lane Rental form of contract.
He moved back North to look after Stockport’s road maintenance and introduce information technology to the engineering department. Peter presently works for his own company providing engineering services in the highways and infrastructure field for organisations such as Atkins and the Highways Agency.
He was National Chairman of the ICE Graduates and Students Committee and has continued his involvement in his professional Institutions throughout his career including serving on the Council of the Institution of Municipal Engineers and chairing the Municipals in both the East Midlands and North West.
He has chaired the ICE in the North West and is a professional reviewer for both ICE and CIHT where he has reviewed in London, Edinburgh and Chennai, India. He has given numerous lectures and is presently teaching students at Stockport College.
