CIHT Northern Ireland

In 2015 CIHT’s 18 UK Branches were restructured to 12 Regions to match the boundaries of the Devolved Nations and the English Regions.

On Monday 20th April 2015 the Northern Ireland Branch became CIHT Northern Ireland.

Branch History
The Branch was formed on 11 November 1964. Together with the President and Secretary of the Institution, seven guests attended the inaugural meeting of the Northern Ireland Branch. Today, the small group of members has grown to almost 300. Four past Presidents have come from the Branch: Harold Scott in 1971, Billy McCoubrey in 1998-9, Ronnie Porter 2002-3.and Geoff Allister  2010-11.  A list of Hon Chairs, Secretaries, Treasurers and Presidents can be found here NI CIHT Branch Officers
Technical Events
CIHT Northern Ireland is very active. Four technical meetings are held between November and March each year in Belfast including joint meetings with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Logistics and Transportation. In addition a lunchtime meeting is held in the West or North of the Province. This usually takes the form of a lecture followed by a lunch. Technical seminars are also held biennially with the co-operation of the local universities and other professional institutions.
CIHT Northern Ireland has published a series of articles in Plant and Civil Engineer.  To view the articles (2011) follow the link here
Social Events
The social calendar is full too – the Region has a Social Evening each year to which members, guests and partners are invited. The Annual Dinner is held in March with over 300 sitting down to celebrate the year's achievements. The Dinner is the highlight of the year and many 'movers and shakers' in the local transportation scene attend.
We have an active golfing group and the winners of the Harold Scott trophy represent the Region each year in the Locan Cup. The Region has won the Cup on numerous occasions!
