Continuing Professional Development

It is essential for professional people to keep their skills and knowledge up to date and to demonstrate continued competence in their field of expertise.  Continuing Professional Development is a means of development planning that enables learning to be linked with practice.  It can help keep skills up to date in preparation for greater responsibilities, boost confidence and make work more interesting.  Most importantly, CPD can increase job satisfaction and improve career development.  All this makes CPD an important part of upgrading to chartered membership.   

Also, to transfer to another class of membership in CIHT or to get a CIHT qualification, or to prepare for a job appraisal, you will need to keep a CPD record sheet and a Personal Development Plan.   

The Branch attendance record for events offers CPD certificates on request.  Non-members are invited to join CIHT and, so far this year, 11% of them have applied for membership.

CPD certificates were available for the following events in the Branch programme 2010-2011: 

 

Talk 22 September on a concrete arch bridge in Czech Republic - 2 hours
 
Visit 6 October to Derwen aggregates - 3 hours 
 
Annual Seminar 18 November - 5 hours
 
Talk on Coed Darcy Urban Village 13 January - 2 hours
 

Debate on High Speed Rail 23 February - 1½ hours

 
Events for the remainder of the year could provide an additional 20+ hours
