5-a-side football 3 November 2010

The CIHT South Wales Branch 5-a-side Football Tournament sponsored by LGA Ltd took place on Wednesday 3 November. Six teams entered the tournament played at the Gol Centre, Newport:

1. Mott MacDonald
2. Atkins
3. Arup
4. Tarmac National Contracting
5. Capita Symonds A
6. Capita Symonds B

The tournament was played in a champions league format and meant the games were played in a fast and furious fashion. This took its toll on the 5 man Arup team who despite a sterling effort and a magnificent goalkeeping show couldn't keep up the pace for 5 games in less than 90 minutes! Elsewhere in the group copious use was made of substitutes leading to a number of close battles. The Gol referees ran a tight ship and kept the tournament to time and balls below head height.

Emerging from the group stage it was an all Capita Symonds lock-out for the final; A vs B. As the other competitors made a visit to the on-site bar the final began. With tense time checks throughout the 10 minute final it remained close to the final whistle. Capita Symonds B were victorious.

Once Capita Symonds A team had emerged from the changing rooms the trophy presentation was made by Richard King of LGA Ltd to the Capita Symonds B team. Capita Symonds bold claims of retaining the trophy were justified it turns out!

The tournament was an ideal chance to meet other CIHT members and get some after work exercise
