Chris Vinestock, Head of Transportation with the City and County of Swansea, gave a talk at Swansea University. He was previously Operational Manager with responsibility for highway maintenance, traffic management, public transport and road safety with Cardiff City Council.
He described, with the aid of slides, the old dated and unattractive Quadrant bus station in Swansea city centre which has been due for replacement for some years. The existing bus station was closed in June 2009 to enable the redevelopment work to start.
The project is expected to last 15 months and will bring significant changes to bus services during that time.
During the work the bus station will be completely closed to traffic and passengers.
In its place, a series of temporary bus stops will be located across the city centre.
Transport Grant and European Convergence funding is now in place and work commenced in June 2009 to create a new modern Interchange. This will be used by local and regional buses, and by coach services. More information is available on the scheme web site.
