Visit to Derwen Aggregates 6 October

Managing Director and Sales and Marketing ManagerThe visit began with a comprehensive talk by Debbie Keogh, the plant Sales and Marketing Manager on the operations of the plant.  Mark Davies the plant Managing Director then took the party on a tour of the plant, to give a fully interactive overview of how Derwen Aggregates operates at Neath Abbey.

The majority of the feedstock washing plantoriginates from Greenfield excavations and rock over burden which would normally be disposed of at a landfill site. Thus the plant provides an alternative route for disposal, which contributes towards minimising waste to landfill, and meeting ever increasing landfill diversion targets.

Derwen Aggregates recover 99% of the feedstock and return it into clean single sized aggregates and low permeability clay that meet the requirements of quarried products.  The sand produced avoids extraction from the sea, a point of increasing concern.

Mark Davies and Debbie Keogh concluded the visit by providing additional information on the plant operations, following which the visitors were kindly provided with light refreshments.
