Since joining the CIHT in 2003 I have been an active member supporting local and national events with my current involvement as Southern Branch Chair, Membership Board and now as an IHT reviewer for CEng/IEng. Through this time I have also been active on the local branch committee as Recruitment and Membership Officer and Vice Chair.
During 2010/11 I want to lead the Southern Branch to become more involved in branch activities and with this we will continue to put on the evening meetings with the seminar and dinner going ahead but we will reflect the current economic climate in these events. In addition we are working to establish a Graduates and Students Committee to represent the branch members under 35 and ensure we are meeting their needs as a branch.
My career has taken me around the world to recently setting up my own consultancy business, Metis Consultants Ltd.. I have worked in highway maintenance contracting from site engineer to Operations Director of a county council as well as a Project Engineer for local authority taking highway safety and improvement schemes form feasibility through design, consultation and implementation. While in working overseas in Hong Kong I worked as a consultant engineer designing and supervising implementation of structural improvements and enhancements as well as geotechnical works on slope stabilisation.
My breadth of experience helps me to understand the needs of the engineering profession but also of those working within it. The possibility of making a difference in developing the IHT excites me and I will ensure the IHT remains focused on the needs of its membership and nurtures the next generation of highway and transportation professionals.
