The Institution of Highway & Transportation

About us

Thames & Chilterns

It is believed the branch was founded in June 1957 as this is the first entry in the Committee attendance book. The branch was initially called the South Midlands Branch but due to the confusion this caused was renamed the Thames and Chilterns Branch in 2003.

The branch area encompasses the counties of Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire and has a membership of around 720.

A programme technical evening meetings is run throughout the year, details of which are posted on the CIHT website on our homepage. We endeavour to arrange site visits when the opportunity presents. Joint meetings are also run with ICE (ThamesValley and Hertfordshire districts), CILT and IHE.

A dinner dance is normally held in the Autumn of each year to which we are usually delighted to welcome the President and Chief Executive of the Institution. Other regular social events include go karting, a theatre evening and a summer family day. We also enthusiastically turn out a team every year for the Institution’s Locan Cup golf tournament, which we are proud to be organising in 2010.

CIHT Presidency
Five branch members (all CountySurveyors!) have ascended to the CIHT Presidency, namely KennethSummerfield, JohnLeigh, MikeHardy, GeoffPotter and NigelKnott.
