    Roddy Beynon is Chair of the CIHT Cymru Wales region for the 2016-2018 period

    Roddy Beynon is Chair of the CIHT Cymru Wales region for the 2016-2018 period, having previously served as Vice-Chair and as the group’s emerging professionals officer. The latter role involved encouraging those new to highways and transportation, including university students, to join the institution and participate in events.


    As a senior transport engineer with Arup in Cardiff, Roddy is involved in a wide range of projects involving both public and private sector clients. He contributes to multidisciplinary masterplans, strategic public transport initiatives, pedestrian and cycle planning as well as transport proposals for major developments. Since 2013, Roddy has worked closely with a number of stakeholders on the development of Metro, which will transform the way we travel around the Cardiff Capital Region. Roddy was also project manager for the preparation of the Active Travel Design guidance for Welsh Government, which provides comprehensive advice on planning for walking and cycling.


    In addition to projects in South Wales, Roddy has worked on projects elsewhere in the UK as well as in Turkmenistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Dubai. These have included the planning of new settlements, urban regeneration strategies and major sporting facilities.


    As Chair Roddy is focused on raising the profile of the CIHT in Wales by promoting transport planning, growing the group’s membership, encouraging greater participation and supporting members who are looking to achieve professional qualifications.

  • Sion Williams

    Sion Williams

    Associate - Capita Property and Infrastructure

    Sion is an Associate working for Capita Property and Infrastructure in their Colwyn Bay Office.

    He has over 25 years experience of highway design working for both local authorities and consulting engineers. Having started with Clwyd County Council in 1989 he undertook part time studies for ONC, HNC and then a degree in Civil Engineering.

    With local government reorganisation in 1996, Sion moved to Denbighshire County Council as an Engineer within the Major Projects Group working on a number of Trunk and County Road Schemes.

    In 1999 Sion moved to Hyder Consulting in Warrington to work on the M62 Route Management which covered the route from Liverpol to Hull. In 2000 he left Hyder and then joined Symonds to undertake the a role within the Employers Agent Team on the A5 Nesscliffe Bypass Project and 15 years later is still there although the company name has changed on a number occasions.

    Sion has worked on a wide variety of projects from small traffic calming and maintenance schemes, through to the design and project management of major highway projects including an international motor racing circuit and multi award winning public realm schemes.

    Having worked for Consultants and local Government in Wales and England, David moved overseas to work for Contractors, Consultants and Project Management companies in various locations in the Middle East and Asia.

    David overseas work has allowed him to work on some very prestigious projects in the Middle East and also large scale Transportation and Infrastructure projects across Asia in the last 18 years.

    Claudia Currie

    Development Control and Route Engineer (South Wales) for the Welsh Government

    Claudia has over 24 years experience across the UK and abroad working as a Transport Planner and Highway Engineer in both the public and private sectors.

    On behalf of CIHT and TPS Claudia is responsible for developing the first industry recognised qualification for transport planners, the TPP, that is on a par with CEng recognition. She chaired the working group from its inception to the launch of the TPP in March 2008. She has been a Branch Committee member since 1997 and has been Secretary, Chairman (the first female chairperson for the branch) and is now Branch Treasurer. She represented the Branch at Council for the 6 years until 2010 and has now been re-elected as an Ordinary Member of Council.

    Kerry Evans

    Engineer

    Kerry was the first Chair for the Cymru Wales region she has now taken the role as Web Officer.

    Prior to becoming the first Chair for the region of Wales from 2015-2016, Kerry was chair of the North Wales branch of the CIHT from 2014. Kerry works for Mott MacDonald in Colwyn Bay and delivered the highways design element for Crewe Green Link Road South before being seconded to Natural Resources Wales project managing Initial Assessments, Upland Catchment investigations, section 278 works and flood alleviation projects to construction. Kerry is currently on secondment to Denbighshire County Council.

    In her spare time Kerry is a Flying Officer RAF VR(T) and Officer Commanding of 418 Colwyn Bay Squadron

    Daniel is a Transport Planner at Arup’s Cardiff Office, and has around 4 years public and private sector experience.

    Daniel has experience in both writing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans associated with a range of land-use types, and has a good understanding of the transport related requirements of successful planning applications.

    Having previously worked within local government in Wales, Daniel was responsible for identifying and managing the delivery of sustainable travel projects, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of travel plans and providing advice on sustainable transport.

    Daniel is Chair of the growing Cymru Wales Region’s Young Professionals Committee, which aims to represent the views of young and emerging professional members within the Institution.

    Richard joined Mott MacDonald in 1991 initially engaged on the A55 Aber Improvement project and the A5 projects across Anglesey.

    Richard joined Mott MacDonald in 1991 initially engaged on the A55 Aber Improvement project and the A5 projects across Anglesey. Richard relocated to the Sheffield office some 15 years ago and worked on a number of highway schemes including Doncaster North Bridge Project and Stoke Hammond Bypass. Richard also supervised the construction of five railway stations on the Robin Hood line and the reconstruction of Chesterfield Station. Richard relocated to North Wales in 2006 and is responsible for business development in North Wales and leads the Highway and Civil Engineering team in Colwyn Bay. Richard is married and has two children and lives in Old Colwyn. He is also a reviewer for the IHT.
