Alan is currently Area 12 Network Manager at Aone+ and has 30 years experience in the civil engineering industry.
Alan started his career working for British Railways and after graduation moved into Local Government working for two Local Authorities in the Yorkshire & Humberside Region. During that time he worked as Project Manager and
undertook site supervision of a variety of drainage, urban regeneration, highway and transportation improvement projects.
More recently he worked on maintaining and undertaking safety improvements on the Motorway and Trunk Road network in the North West region.
Alan joined the CIHT in 2000 and Y&H branch committee in 2006 after moving back to the area. Alan is a reviewer for the CIHT and is keen to support young engineers gain experience and achieve Chartered status.

Geoff is an Associate Director in Arup’s Leeds office and coordinates their highways business across the north. He has previous experience in a number of Arup locations having started his career at the Warwick office when it was formed from the Midland Road Construction Sub Unit in 1982. He joined the institution in 1991, was re-elected to Committee in 2006, and is also a Chartered Civil Engineer. Having graduated with a BSc Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds he continued with an MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering from the Institute of Transport Studies in 1979.
Whilst in the Midlands Geoff gained experience on the M40, M42 and A69 Coventry projects, and on the E5 Motorway in Turkey including spells abroad. He joined the newly formed Leeds office in 1991 to develop the transport capability and has since led framework contracts with Network Rail and the Highways Agency. He was Project Manager on Arup’s collaboration with Amec on the award winning A650 Bingley Relief Road Project which opened in 2003.Other relevant projects include Wakefield Europort, several East Coast Mainline upgrade studies, and Lender’s Technical Advisor to a bidder on the Sheffield Highways PFI project. Recent work with the Highways Agency includes retendering of their Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) commissions, and in a HA Performance Audit role, supporting KPMG.
Overseas he has recent experience working with the European Investment Bank on projects in Bulgaria and Romania. Geoff has a developing interest in Intelligent Transport Systems and maintains good links with the University of Leeds. He is a member of Arup’s Graduate recruitment Task Force and is involved in Arup’s corporate and local recruitment strategies. Geoff is a member of the Branch Committee's Communication Group, which is working to raise the profile of the Branch. He is (still) keen on sports including football and cycling, and sometimes relaxes by catching trout in the Yorkshire Dales.

Rob is currently the Chairman of the Yorkshire & Humberside Branch, in addition to this Rob is also the Branch Representative on CIHT Council. As part of his branch activities he is the chair of the Awards and Programme sub group and oversees the other various sub groups and boards within the branch.
Over and above serving on CIHT Council, Rob also serves on the CIHT’s Audit committee, the Learned Society & Technical Strategy Board which in turn oversees a number of Panels and sub group one of which is the Road Safety panel which Rob also serves on.
He is the currently Programme Development Manager for A-one+ (a MAC Joint Venture between Colas, Costain and Halcrow), currently working on the Trunk Roads in the East Midlands where he is responsible for identifying and bidding for funding for the forward programme of work as well as being responsible for delivery of all in the in-year programmes.
His background is predominantly in Civil and Highway engineering and he began his career on site contracting for Costain, then following a spell contracting overseas working on a Government project in the Seychelles he moved into Local Government, formerly at North Yorkshire then latterly City of York Council for nearly 10 years, eventually taking up his present consultancy role back in 2003.
Over the last 20 years Rob has been involved in a range of high profile projects including environmentally sensitive sewer replacements through historic woodlands, a £12 million housing project for the Seychelles Government, York’s Millennium Bridge and more recently delivering Safety & Economy Improvements on the East Midlands Motorways and Trunk roads (a number of which received awards and commendation at the regional institution awards).
Rob joined the CIHT in 2002 and was formally elected onto the committee in 2005 after serving a year as a co-opted member.
Outside the profession Rob has in the past represented England Internationally in karate as a fighter and prior to that competed nationally as a Triathlete. Whilst he still trains he is now a nationally qualified karate referee and now spends most of his spare time coaching in York.

Iain is a Senior Technical Director with WSP based in their Leeds Office. Iain has some 36 years experience in the design, construction maintenance and operations of motorways and all purpose trunk roads. He has over 25 years experience in maintaining the motorways in
Iain was previously the Engineering Manager and more latterly the Network Watchman on the CarillionWSP’s Area 12 MAC contract from 2003 to 2009 and developing the Area Safety Action Plan for delivery of accident reduction and an expanding programme of renewal and improvement schemes. He was also the CDM Coordinator for the MAC.
Iain’s operational and maintenance experienced was gained working on the maintenance of the motorways and trunk roads in
Iain first worked for Frank Graham and Partners on the design and construction of the North Devon Link Road one of the first uses of the Highway Link design concept for single carriageway roads, before moving to Yorkshire to deliver maintenance renewal schemes as part of the first privatisation of motorway maintenance for the DfT when the Metropolitan County Councils were abolished.

Leanne is a transport planner at JMP Consultants in Leeds, having graduated from the University of Leeds with an MSc in Transport Planning in 2007. At JMP Leanne is particularly involved in travel planning, spatial planning, local and regional transport policy and development planning and control.

Richard’s background is in Civil and Highway Engineering. He joined the Institution in 1981 and became a fellow in 1993. He is based in Wakefield, from where he heads Pell Frischmann’s Highways business.
Richard graduated from Nottingham University in 1972 and worked for West Yorkshire County Council until 1982. During his time at West Yorkshire he became Chartered and worked in the Road Construction Sub Unit on a number of projects including M18, M62 and Skipton Bypass projects.
After leaving West Yorkshire he moved to the Arabian Gulf in 1982 and worked in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Oman. In Bahrain he managed a highway maintenance team and later in Oman he ran a consultancy practice specialising in buildings and highways. He joined Pell Frischmann in 1986.
He has worked on both Civil Engineering and building projects including a period leading a team developing a PFI business in school construction and management.
Since the late 1990’s, Richard’s main interest has been major highway projects, and he has worked on a range of projects including the M1-A1 Link Road DBFO contract, the A1 Bramham to Wetherby Improvement, the A69 Carlisle to Newcastle DBFO contract, the A1 Darrington to Dishforth DBFO Contract and the Jamaica 2000 Toll Road Project.
Richard is the Branch Golf Secretary and he organises the annual competitions for the regional “Ridings Trophy” and the national “Locan Cup”.

Keith is currently a Technical Director with Amey based in Sheffield.
He has over 30 years experience in motorway and trunk road network management, highway engineering and bridge management including bridge inspection, assessment, design and maintenance. He also has over 10 years’ experience of management of business units, staff and finance, in the motorway network maintenance and design consultancy fields. He has been a major contributor to the operation and maintenance aspects of several large Highways Agency DBFO and Local Authority PFI tenders, specifically regarding structures where he prepared method statements, whole-life plans and cost models.
Keith started his career with West Riding CC, later South Yorkshire CC before moving at its abolition in 1986 to Barnsley MBC. He moved to the private sector, joining Owen Williams in 1988, where he became South Yorkshire Motorway Network Manager. Following a short period with WSP, he moved to Atkins Highways and Transportation in Leeds becoming Business Manager and eventually Associate Director/Chief Engineer.
Outside work, Keith’s interests include walking, photography, birds and wildlife, music of all types and gardening. He has also an interest through his sons in canoeing and is a former vice-chair of the BCU Yorkshire Region Development Team where he helped in the development of the Manvers Lake watersports centre between Barnsley and Rotherham.

John Brown retired, as Business Development Manager, from Mouchel Parkman (now Mouchel Group) in 2005. He is a member of the Institution's Membership Board. In addition, outside IHT, John is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a member of the Technical Advisers' Group (TAG).
John joined the Institution of Highways and Transportation in 1970 and spent the major part of his career with a range of Local Authorities in the North of England, working mainly on the promotion, design and construction of major highway projects. As Assistant Director with North Yorkshire County Council, in 1999, he managed the externalisation to Mouchel of his Consultancy Business Unit.
Graham is the Commercial Manager for Route One Highways, a West Yorkshire company specialising in the Highway and Airfield Maintenance sector.
I have some 30 years of experience in the construction industry gained initially on a variety of new build projects as diverse as the A66 Cockermouth Bypass to the M25. This has been followed by a variety of infrastructure projects from high pressure trunk mains for Yorkshire Water to private industrial developments and for the last 20 years I have worked solely in the highway and airfield sector on Lane Rental, MACs, TMCs and airfield maintenance and refurbishment contracts.
My last three years have been spent within the “front end” of the construction world engaged in work winning, business development and customer relationship management activities. I am a somewhat of a newcomer to IHT having been a member for just 6 years with my years service as Chairman running from April 2008 to April 2009.
I continue, despite the ups and downs of life and the UK weather, to maintain a keen interest in outdoor pursuits and enjoy hill-walking as well as being an avid supporter of Sheffield United (hopefully this will not be held against me).
Helen is an engineer working for Arup within the transport team in Leeds. She graduated in Civil and Structural Engineering in 2005 from the University of Bradford and then went on to obtain an MSc (Eng) in Transport Planning and Engineering at the University of Leeds in 2006.
During her time at Arup, Helen has worked on the detailed design and improvements of some park and ride sited within South Yorkshire. More recently she has worked on the detailed design of a new bus and rail interchange in Castleford. This scheme involved the design of a short stay and long stay car park, the bus station area and a new section of public highway. Currently she is working on a new public park area within the centre of Bradford.

Michael is a Transport/Signal Engineer working for WSP in Leeds, where he is working for a number of signal improvement projects for Highways Agency Area 12 including A1(M)/M18 Improvement and A63 Garrison Road Improvement. He is also involved in signal projects for London.
He obtained MSc (Eng) at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds in Sep 2003. After graduated, he worked for Pell Frischmann during the period between Oct 2003 and Oct 2006, where he was involved in a wide variety projects including Micro-simulation & Macro-simulation Modelling, Junction Design, Transport Assessment and Route/Safety Management.
Michael is interested in playing football, basketball and doing voluntary work in the local Christian Church for students. He is keen to contribute his skills and his time to organise events for the Graduate and Young Professional.
