Essential learning and development:
Play England, in collaboration with the CIHT, are pleased to provide this CPD event for members of CIHT and allied professional bodies. Designed to make sure our environments are designed clearly with children in mind, this professional development session provides an insight to how we can effectively plan with children in mind and covers consultation/participation processes as well as tackling design and technical issues.
‘Thinking play’ is so much more than just considering playgrounds or ‘formal’ play spaces and it is important that professionals working in the built environment understand the importance of engagement with children in the design process right through to implementation in wider projects.
The provisions of the Equality Act 2010 are also an important driver, as this covers age discrimination amongst other factors – so it is vitally important to ensure that children and young people are engaged and consulted properly. This seminar will help professionals consider new ways of ensuring children’s needs are recognised and met.
This session will also provide a ‘taster’ for a half-day or full-day modular course that Play England have developed to ensure that ‘playable’ environments are created through the way we design and plan places – whether that be residential areas, civic squares, highway schemes, parks and open spaces or other ‘public realm’ environments.
Building on previous success:
Building on a track record of course development as part of the national ‘Playshaper’ facilitation programme (2009-2010), the ‘Creating Child Friendly Communities’ message builds on previous training and development activities carried out in Cornwall, Bournemouth and Poole, and the London Borough of Islington around placemaking and play.
With recent changes in the political landscape coupled with a much stronger emphasis on localism, community engagement and neighbourhood planning, can you afford not to miss this opportunity to broaden your thinking?
Spaces will be allocated on a first come-first served basis and you are also welcome to bring guests that may not be members of CIHT but who you would feel would benefit from this learning experience. As the seminar is free, it is usually oversubscribed - we request that if you register and find that you are no longer able to attend, please do let us know as soon as possible, so your place can be released to one of your industry colleagues who would benefit from attending.
