When the Olympics rolls into town only 1% of London’s roads will be given over to “games lanes” but nearly everyone will be affected by a summer of transport challenges. This seminar looks at the challenges, and opportunities, facing businesses and organisers during 2012. Some businesses will have to change the way they operate to meet the opportunities of more people, purchasing more goods and undertaking more activities. But, how will staff get to work, and beer get to the pub or bread to the bakers? The issue facing London is not simply about getting athletes to the games, but about the logistical challenge of maintaining daily life for over 8 million people under the most extraordinary conditions to face a population in peace time.

Our speakers give both sides of the debate from TfL as the transport provider to the Freight Transport Association as a lobby for businesses.

Natalie Chapman (Head of Policy - London Freight Transport Association)

Natalie will outline the challenges for operators during the operation of the Olympic Route Network and describe some of the freight and goods movements that can often be overlooked.

Stuart Greenshields (Olympic Road Freight Management Team,TfL)

Stuart will outline how Transport for London expects the Olympic Route Network and Primary Route Network to operate during games time and how TfL anticipate traffic flow will be affected. Stuart will also outline how TfL have engaged with businesses and what actions can be taken to negate the impacts of games time restrictions.
