Delivering Travel Plans through the Planning Process - Liverpool

A series of FREE SEMINARS to explore the DfT/CLG guidelines ‘Delivering Travel Plans through the Planning Process’ and the potential of using the planning process to deliver effective and sustainable travel plans.

Travel plans represent an important tool for promoting sustainable travel. They encourage effective use of current transport networks and support their enhancement and can contribute to wider goals, such as physical activity and social inclusion. Travel plans can be a key tool in achieving national, regional and local objectives.
 
These good practice guidelines aim to help all those involved in creating and implementing travel plans understand the processes involved and good practice steps for achieving successful and sustainable travel plans which can deliver wide ranging benefits.

About the Seminars
Travel Plans are an important tool for promoting sustainable travel and ensuring that these travel plans are reliable, robust, effective and delivering modal shift away from private car usage is not only essential to the development sector, but with increasing budgetary pressures on government bodies and local authorities, it is also essential to the delivery of an effective transport system that will aid and reinvigorate industry and the economy in the coming years.
 
Following the launch of the document Delivering Travel Plans through the Planning Process in April 2009, the Department for Transport are keen to ensure that the guidance outlined in the document is disseminated as widely as possible to the transportation profession through a series of free seminars.
 
The seminars will be delivered by a partnership of industry experts including MVA, Mouchel, the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation, and the Royal Town Planning Institute on behalf of the Department for Transport.
 
Why you should attend
The guidelines will help all of those involved in creating, implementing and realising the benefits of travel plans, including local authority planners, transport and travel plan officers, developers and consultants. Travel plans can be a key tool in achieving national, regional and local objectives to manage the demand for movement and improve accessibility and address CO2 emissions from transport. They can also contribute to the delivery of other objectives, such as health, air quality and quality of life. Each seminar will include speaking slots from the main authors of the guidance, Lynda Addison and Sheila Holden and other travel planning experts, with case study examples of locally sourced development control, local authority process and travel plans. The day will include interactive workshops aimed at putting the policy into practice and best practice examples showing effective implementation of the guidance in varying settings.
 
Each event will start with an hour long key decision makers briefing aimed at senior transport professionals, such as Heads of Transport and Environment and key Local Politicians and Councillors.
 
This will be followed by a structured all day seminar for practitioners, which will explore the detail of best practice in this area of work. The day will include interactive workshops and one-to-one drop in clinics with experts and speakers.
 
A copy of the full document will be given to all attendees.

Drop in clinics for one to one advice will be available during all the break sessions through out the day. The conference will count as one full day towards individual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

The 'Delivering Travel Plans through the Planning Process’ seminar taking place on the 9th March at Merseytravel, 24 Hatton Garden, Liverpool, L3 2AN.

Merseytravel is located about 5-7 minutes walk from Liverpool Lime Street BR Station.  Please be advised that there are no car parking facilities at Merseytravel, however, NCP car parks are available in the vicinity. Conference:
We ask all delegates to enter through the main Reception at Merseytravel. If you are attending the Key Decision Makers Overview Briefing, please make your way to the Atrium area where tea & coffee will be served from 08:30 to 09:00. The Briefing will start promptly at 09:00 and end at 10.00.

If you are attending the main Practitioners’ Conference, please also make your way to the Atrium area where tea/coffee will be served from 10:00 to 10:30. The conference will start promptly at 10:30 with a Keynote Introduction. The conference is due to finish at approximately 17:00.

If you are staying the night before the conference, there is a wide variety of hotel accommodation in the vicinity of Merseytravel.
