NI CIHT Raise money at annual Dinner for Parkinsons research at QUB

June 14 2011   | Branch: Northern Ireland

The NI CIHT Branch raised over £1756 at the annual Dinner in April 2011 for research into alleviating Parkinsons disease.  A cheque was presented to Professor Cathy Craig in the School of Psychology, Queen’s University Belfast. She and her team have been awarded an Innovation research grant by Parkinson’s UK to see how gaming technology, such as the Nintendo Wii, could help improve movement performance in people with Parkinson’s. Professor Craig and her team are also using this funding to develop bespoke movement based games that take the needs of people with Parkinson’s into account, along with other tools that use the power of gaming technology, such as the Wii-mote, to monitor symptoms (e.g. tremor).
