Cabinet Approves Heathrow Runway Plan

The Cabinet has today approved plans for a third runway to be built at Heathrow airport.

The controversial plans will include moving the M25 150 metres to the west and lowered into a tunnel, whilst not interrupting operation of the motorway and will have a major impact on surface transport in the area.

You can read CIHT's response to the proposed Surface Strategy here.

Campaigners argue that the expected additional planes a day will breach the UK's legal limits on air pollution and increase noise pollution but proponents argue that the UK needs to expand its airport capacity and reliability to help businesses remain internationally competitive.

A vote in parliament is expected to be scheduled soon.
