Ethical standards reviewed for engineering profession
This month the engineering profession has reviewed and launched a key document that provides guidance for engineers and technicians on ethical behaviour and decision-making: the Statement of Ethical Principles.

CIHT Chief Executive, Sue Percy, said: “Ethical behaviour should be integral to everything our members do as professionals.  CIHT welcomes the Statement of Ethical Principles which emphasises the importance of ethical standards and aligns with the Institution’s Code of Professional Conduct.”

The Statement of Ethical Principles, which has been produced by the Engineering Council and the Royal Academy of Engineering, sets out four fundamental principles that all engineering professionals should aspire to follow in their working habits and relationships:

  • Honesty and integrity
  • Respect for life, law, the environment and public good
  • Accuracy and rigour
  • Leadership and communication
