All new members receive a Welcome Pack providing essential information about the Institution, its Branches, Boards, Council and staff. The aim of the pack is to ensure that members make full use of the opportunities that the Institution has to offer.

A Certificate of Membership is sent to all new members. This confirms the date of election and membership grade. CIHT members are eligible to use the post nominal letters AMCIHT, MCIHT and FCIHT as appropriate. A membership number is allocated to new members which allows exclusive member access to the 'My CIHT' section of the website.

Members receive the Institution's magazine Transportation Professional.
The magazine is produced 10 times a year and contains all the latest industry
news and developments, technical features, as well as Institution news.

New members are automatically allocated to their nearest regional Branch
or branch of their choice, and receive details of branch technical and social events. These regional events, combined with national conferences and seminars organised centrally by CIHT, provide valuable networking opportunities for members to meet and exchange ideas and information. We currently have three branches outside the UK – in Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Republic of Ireland. We plan to delvelop a 'virtual' branch for members in other countries, which will operate via our website.
