The Institution of Highway & Transportation

The Environmental Management of Highways (2001)

February 1 2001

The guidelines on The Environmental Management of Highways outline the development of environmental policy in the UK and describe best practice on a range of key environmental topics relating to the management and maintenance of transport infrastructure. The Guidelines are intended to be compatible with other official guidance from the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT), the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) and the Highways Agency (HA).

The guidelines are intended for use mainly by planners, architects, highway engineers, traffic engineers and maintenance engineers, in both the public and private sectors. They are also intended to assist councillors, voluntary groups and others who wish to pursue improvements to the highway environment, such as residents whose community is disrupted by heavy traffic. Finally, they are intended to help promote a consensus amongst the authorities, professionals and user groups on the best ways to improve conditions.

If you are an overseas member of CIHT please contact publications@ciht.org.uk to receive a member discount on publications. This is so that CIHT can confirm membership details before international shipping.
