Honorary Membership & Award of Honorary Membership

The Society may grant the status of Honorary Membership in specific circumstances largely intended to reward persons who have an overarching role in defining Road Safety Audit policy at regional and national level.

Scope and Process
Honorary Member is a significant award granted by the Society.  The award may only be conferred on persons who have a clear and distinct role in defining Road Safety Audit policy within their operational area only and may not be awarded to persons who undertake Road Safety Audits.

The Society’s committee shall have absolute discretion in determining who should receive the award.

Any member of the Society may nominate a person for consideration as an Honorary Member and should provide supporting evidence to justify the nomination.  The nomination should be submitted to the Society’s Honorary Secretary in writing and the submission should include the supporting evidence.

The Society’s committee will consider all such nominations at their next meeting and will announce the grant at an appropriate time, e.g. the Society’s Annual General Meeting.

Criteria
The key nomination criteria are that potential recipients should have:
•    Had or has a significant overarching role in defining Road Safety Audit policy at regional and national level; and
•    Their role should be readily recognised by Road Safety Auditors within their region or nationally and their name should have some resonance.

 In making nominations members may consider:
•    Will a significant proportion of the membership of SoRSA within the recipients regions or nationally recognise the name of the Honorary Member and understand, without explanation, why they have received the honour?
•    Will association of the name of Honorary Member with SoRSA bring benefit (status by association) to SoRSA either in the UK or overseas?
•    Will the recipient of Honorary Membership understand and appreciate the honour being bestowed?
