Congress Objectives
Globally road crashes claim a yearly total of 1.2 million deaths fifty times that many are injured. Many of those deaths are preventable. On 2 March 2010 the UN passed a resolution calling for a ‘Decade of Action’ for road safety calling the crisis “a major public health problem” with a “ broad range of social and economic consequences”. The solution can only be implemented through multi-sector collaboration and partnerships among all concerned in both public and private sectors, with the involvement of the travelling public. This congress will look at what the UK is doing to contribute to a reduction in road deaths and how partnership working is at the core. It will focus on the operational environment and consider how ITS and behavioural change will contribute to casualty reduction. The congress will draw on international expertise to contribute to the day.
