This contract was awarded to Dowsett Engineering Construction Ltd in the tender sum of £5.211 million and started on the 14th March 1972 and completed in March 1974.
The contract took the M62 Motorway to its junction with the London - Edinburgh Trunk Road A1 at Ferrybridge and included the construction of a three level interchange together with a length of embankment and bridge in the middle of the roundabout to carry the future M62 extension over the A1. A second interchange was also included in this contract at Pontefract at the junction of the A639 Pontefract - Castleford County Road.
There are 17 bridges on this 8.4km. length of motorway. Again special precautions to minimise the effect of old mine workings were taken throughout these works. |
