Rob began his career with Cumbria County Council as a Graduate Assistant Engineer in 1983 and spent periods with North Yorkshire and Leicestershire County Councils before joining the private sector. He worked with Mouchel and BEAR Scotland on the Scottish Trunk Road network before joining Pell Frischmann as part of the Department’s Agent’s Site Representative team working on construction of the works associated with the A1 Darrington to Dishforth DBFO Project. In 2005, Rob moved back to the Northern Branch area taking the post of Operations Manager for Autolink Concessionaires on the M6 DBFO Project covering the A74(M) / M74 from the Scottish Border to Junction 12 of the M74. During his career, Rob has been involved in the ICE as a member of the AMG&S committee in the 1980s and the IHT as a member of the North of Scotland Branch committee between 2001 and 2003

Ian is a well known and respected person in the field of highway construction and maintenance having spent in excess of 37 years working for Cumbria County Council. He recently took early retirement but could not bear to be away from highways activities and now works part-time for independent local contractor Cumbria Traffic Management as Head Office Manager. He has been on the Branch Committee for many years and has served as Chair, on two separate occasions, as well as being the IHT council delegate for the branch.

Jane Hunter BEng(Hons) MSc PGCE CEng MIHT MIfL MWES
Jane graduated from Bolton Institute in 2002 with an Honours degree in Civil Engineering and from the University of Salford in 2006 with a Masters degree in Transport Engineering and Planning.
After seven years in the Construction Industry, she started her Engineering career as a trainee highways technician for Barrow Borough Council in 1997, before transferring to Capita Symonds where she later became the Traffic & Design Team Leader in the Barrow Local Practice.
In 2007, Jane joined Gifford as a Principal Engineer in the company’s Environment Development Planning section where she works in Transport Planning on a variety of major transport projects throughout the UK, carrying out Transport Assessments, Travel Planning and Technical Development Appraisals.
Jane is a Chartered Engineer through the IHT and won the national Karen Burt Memorial Award from the Women's Engineering Society in 2007. She has also mentored fellow members of the Institution through their IEng and CEng professional reviews. In her spare time, Jane is a part-time lecturer at Furness College, in Barrow-in-Furness and a STEM Ambassador in Cumbria.
She is now the Northern Branch Council Delegate and Web Officer, and hopes to continue to build on the experience she has gained and continue the drive to encourage school leavers to take up careers in construction and engineering.

Ernie is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the ICE and CIHT. He started his career with Tarmac Construction working on major roads and motorways.
After a period in the nuclear industry with Eden Construction he rejoined Tarmac to work in various roles on Rail, Roadworks, Airports and Highway Maintainance.
He is currently Contracts Director for Carillion in the South East working on Crossrail and London Underground.
He is a longstanding Committee Member of the Northern Branch and has served as Chairman, Dinner Secretary and Recruitment Officer.

Formerly a Mining and Civil Engineering Surveyor, Ian has since worked variously as a Construction Project Manager, Measurement Engineer, Claims and Legal Specialist and, for 16 years, was Commercial Manager to local company Cumbrian Industrials Ltd.
Ian was Chairman of the IHT Northern Branch 2001-03 and of CECA-NW 1999-00 and 2002-04, before taking up his current role as Director and Company Secretary of CECA NW Ltd.
Spare time activities include providing careers advice to local schools, music, golf, gliding and his home county, the Lake District.
