Message from the Chair

Welcome to our latest SoRSA Newsletter and as usual my ‘From the Chair’ update.

Since the last Newsletter, the committee have been very busy reviewing your questionnaire feedback from our Virtual SoRSA Conference and taking into account some of the comments we have received as we start to make preparations for the 2022 SoRSA Conference.

As promised in our last Newsletter in July 2021, the CIHT Safety Audit Guidelines, have now been updated and more information has been provided below in this newsletter.

There is also an update for the 2022 Annual Review below and as you can see the application window has been reduced and you will only be able to submit your Annual Review Application and associated documents during February 2022 and you will be notified the outcome of your review by the end of April at the latest.

On that note a little reminder that the Virtual SoRSA Conference 2021 gave you 7 hours CPD in total over the two afternoons.

Looking at the traffic flows for the Southwest during the summer period, it appears that many took the opportunity of a ‘Staycation’ and travelled to that beautiful part of the United Kingdom in the Southwest. Our traffic flows were 120% above that of the 2019 figures (prior to the Pandemic) for the same period and they tourists have continued to arrive during the Half-Term holidays.

Within National Highways, work is in progress for staff to start returning to their offices, which has been a gradual process, starting with 25% capacity followed by 50% capacity. There is now a ‘Blended Way Approach’ with a mix of the office, at home, or another secure office location, as we try to move forward at this time. I would be interested to hear how other companies are managing this process and what proportion of staff are still working from home, office, or a combination of both. The pandemic is still here, but hopefully we can all stay safe and well and get back to some form of normality.

Although slightly early, as this will be the last newsletter of 2021, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and Happy New Year.

Many thanks again for your support of SoRSA and I look forward to working and seeing as many of you as possible during my term of office.

However, if in the meantime you have any questions or concerns that you would like me to address please do not hesitate to contact me via the email address sorsa@ciht.org.uk.

Highways England RSA Quarterly Review

The September edition of the Highways England quarterly newsletter is now available. As well as the review of RSA reports submitted to the Highways England between January and March 2021, the review highlights the Highways England Guide to Designing for Motorcyclists, which is well worth a read. The link will take you to the Highways England research index, a useful resource in itself, and the design guide can be found under 2020-21 publications.

SoRSA Annual Review Notice

Yes, it will soon be review time again. This year you will see we have changed the review dates, this is to allow a more structured approach to the way we carry out the reviews. We will continue to scrutinise how reviews are carried out in the future with a view to making the process as straightforward as we can while maintaining the standard we need.

One of the first things members will look for will be their certificate for the 7 hours of CPD from our conference. You can download your certificate of attendance here

And Finally

No funny pictures for this edition, but a reminder you will find these templates have been added to the SoRSA guidelines for your assistance;
