CIHT’s Professional Development Framework is a competency framework with online tracking to support highways and transportation professionals working towards professional registration. It is the only framework that supports you in gaining Engineering Council and Transport Planning Professional Qualifications. Whether you’re an aspiring Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP), Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or Chartered Engineer (CEng), there is a pathway for you.
It’s for employers who want to support their highways and transportation staff on their journey to gain EngTech, IEng, CEng or Chartered Transport Planning Professional. The employees might be recent graduates or other staff who want to have a structured approach to their professional development as they work towards professional registration.
The CIHT Professional Development Framework provides a structured approach for highways and transportation professionals to develop their competence towards professional registration. There is one system and competency framework for all users, but the level and specifics of the competencies are tailored to the qualification that the user is working towards. This means that employers only need to understand one system but can support staff working towards 4 different qualificaition.
Framework users will all be provided by a mentor by their employer to ensure they are supported on their journey. They will also be able to benefit from professional development support from CIHT through CIHT Learn, webinars and events.
The CIHT Professional Development Framework was developed by CIHT professional reviewers who considered feedback from users and employers as well as the requirements of UK-SPEC and the Transport Planning Professional units to shape the competencies that make up the framework.
The most exciting thing for me is that CIHT members working towards professional registration can be even better supported on their journey to professional registration. I hope to see this result in better engagement with CIHT and it will put them on a course with a good chance of success at professional review.
I think users will find it useful to be able to easily upload evidence against the competencies to share with their mentor. This will help them to have meaningful conversations about their progress.
There are no limits in terms of organisation size but employers will need to commit to supporting any enrolled staff so they need to complete a signup form to show that they will provide their staff with mentors and opportunities to gain the relevant experience. This is easy to do and the team will walk you through it.
