Interim Registration

Interim registration is available to those who have obtained the academic base for either IEng or CEng, but do not yet possess the relevant practical experience to meet the competency requirements for full registration. Having interim registration will demonstrate to employers your enthusiasm, drive and commitment to both your career and the profession.

To be eligible for interim registration you must:

  • Be a Graduate Member, Associate Member, Member or Fellow
  • Have undertaken an Initial Assessment. CIHT will confirm if you are eligible for Interim Registration. For more information, please see Initial Assessment.
  • Pay the initial registration fee of £10.40 and thereafter the annual fee of £13.90

Once your application has been approved, the Engineering Council will issue you with an IEng or CEng interim registrant certificate. Then, over the next few years you will be able to work towards full registration as an IEng or CEng.

We would strongly advise that you work with a mentor to ensure you are developing your knowledge, competence and understanding of engineering principles through work experience. If you do not yet have a mentor, you are advised to contact your employer, your local CIHT Region or register on mentor-match-me, CIHT’s on-line mentor database.
