Full-time, 37 hours per week

Salary – circa £53k per annum

We represent over 14,000 members who work in the highways and transportation sector and we are looking for an outstanding Head of Membership and Member Services to join us. Reporting to the Director of Communication and Marketing, this new and hands-on role’s key objectives are to:

  • Develop and implement a membership recruitment, retention and engagement strategy to achieve member growth year on year, increasing member engagement and strengthen the member value proposition.
  • Executing membership activities and meeting membership recruitment and retention targets.
  • Working within a small membership team, setting targets, reviewing progress of new member acquisitions as well as overseeing key services and products.
  • Drive better member awareness of services and satisfaction
  • Identify opportunities and innovate the current member offer and drive initiatives through to implementation.

Database Manager

£38k PA PLUS BENEFITS; 37 hours per week; Based in Old St, London with options for remote working.

CIHT is a registered charity, and membership organisation based near Old Street Station in London. We represent over 14,000 people who work in the highways and transportation sector.

CIHT wish to appoint a Database Manager. The primary focus of the role will be to maintain and develop our new integrated CRM database. Reporting to the Director of Corporate & Business Services, you will be expected to actively engage with other staff in managing the integrity of data held, to develop reports/ queries, to train and support staff on use of the database and work closely with colleagues to enable business benefits to be achieved.

To be suitable for this position, you will have experience of working in a membership / professional Institution and using a membership / CRM database. You will possess excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, a good understanding of data protection and the technical ability to set up queries and reports using SQL / Power BI. In addition, you will need to demonstrate a positive attitude, a willingness to work flexibly and achieve operational deadlines.

Policy Advisor (2 roles available)

CIHT is the leading Professional Body for highways and transportation. CIHT’s Policy and Technical Affairs team are focused on generating knowledge and content to support the sector deliver a real impact to make the world a better place.  The value is in the content we generate. 

CIHT are looking to recruit for 2 positions:

1. Policy Advisor – Transport Infrastructure  

  • Engineering 
    Highway’s maintenance 
    Road safety 

2. Policy Advisor – Transport Technology  

  • Traffic systems 
  • Digital Twins 
  • Connected and autonomous vehicles 
  • Smart cities 

The person(s) will support the Policy & Technical Affairs Team to:  

• Have a leading voice. 

• Deliver real impact. 

• Have relevancy for now and future. 

The Policy Advisor(s) will learn and grow into becoming a knowledge subject expert supporting CIHT Policy development through a range of medium: think pieces, interviews, published papers, policy work, research, blogs, webinars.

The roles that we are recruiting for offers a huge opportunity to do something differently and to deliver real value by: 

Working with CIHT staff and members to develop and run research and policy projects; 

Work with members to share and create a vibrant online community through digital platforms; 

Support the development of digital and in-person events that are stimulating - delivering real content and knowledge by identifying interesting content and programmes for events; 

Work as knowledge expert generating engaging website content through blogs, news stories, etc,; 

Support the development of technical knowledge through an annual Awards programme  

Support the identification and sourcing of technical content; 

Work with members to represent CIHT’s view to relevant consultations from government and industry bodies;   

Where appropriate provide support to the external consultancy projects carried out by CIHT 

Other duties within the competence of the job holder as required by CIHT. 

 

Skills and Experience:

Degree (ideally in applicable subject). 

At least two years’ experience gained in a policy or research environment. 

A clear interest in Highways and Transportation 

Skills and/or experience in job position area. 

Research skills including experience of conducting surveys, interviews, and desktop research. 

Project management skills. 

Excellent written and verbal communications skills. 

Analytical skills and ability to synthesise policy and technical information into communicable outputs for a range of audiences. 

 

Person specifications:

Essential:

Degree Level or equivalent education.  

Demonstrate knowledge and interest in specialist role area (*).  

A confident communicator, good at understanding what people want to achieve. 

Ability to listen and engage with members to identify the key issues that we want members to be engaged with. 

Demonstrate impact and influence. 

Have flair, drive, enthusiasm, creativity. 

Ability to mine knowledge to create really interesting content. 

To own a subject matter. 

To be able to generate thought leadership content.   

Demonstrate enthusiasm about the importance of policy work  

Experience of using IT, including CRM systems, Microsoft suit of programmes, web and social media to work effectively with colleagues, CIHT volunteers and stakeholders 

Meeting the requirements of CIHT competency framework for the role. 

Desirable:

Experience of a membership/voluntary organisation either as a member/volunteer or employee 

 

Salary – up to £30k – dependent on experience

Interviews – Interviews will be held virtually on an ongoing basis

The role be home based until restrictions are lifted and return to offices is permitted.  Flexible working is supported by CIHT, however at least two-days per week will be office based (Old Street, London).
