Northern Ireland

Welcome to CIHT Northern Ireland

In 2015 CIHT’s 18 UK Branches were restructured to 12 Regions & Nations to match the boundaries of the Devolved Nations and the English Regions. On Monday 20th April 2015 the Northern Ireland Branch became CIHT Northern Ireland. CIHT Northern Ireland is highly active. Four technical meetings are held between November and March each year in Belfast including joint meetings with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Logistics and Transportation.

All CIHT members are welcome to join the AGM.

Your Region needs you!

Ahead of the AGM, we would welcome applications for new members for the CIHT NI Regional Committee. Are you a member of CIHT, and would you like to take a proactive and voluntary role in helping run the local Northern Ireland Region? We are always on the lookout for new committee members to keep us fresh, focused and relevant to our membership.

As well as looking for new ordinary members of the committee, we currently have specific openings for officer roles for Events Co-ordinator and Assistant Secretary:

Events Co-Ordinator - This role includes working with the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary to prepare a 12 month programme of technical and social events, supporting with coordination of committee meetings, regional events and member mail outs, supporting the Honorary Treasurer with finances related to regional events and working with the Web/Communications Officer to ensure events are promoted via CIHT's channels e.g. website, emails and social media.

Assistant Secretary - This role would include helping the Secretary with such items as providing agendas and minutes for Committee Meetings and the AGM, issuing notice of meetings, dealing with regional correspondence as necessary, providing a point of communication between the Chair, Regional Officers and Committee Members and representing the region at functions and external committees as required.

We would also particularly welcome applications from young professionals who are either starting out in their career or who have recently become professional qualified to join our Young Professionals Group. Involvement in the committee will count towards Continuing Professional Development and can lead in the longer term to involvement in national CIHT activities.

In addition to our technical events a lunchtime meeting is held in the West or North of the Province. This usually takes the form of a lecture followed by a lunch. Technical seminars are also held biennially with the co-operation of the local universities and other professional institutions.

The Region has a Social Evening each year to which members, guests and partners are invited. The Annual Dinner is held in March with over 300 sitting down to celebrate the year's achievements. The Dinner is the highlight of the year and many 'movers and shakers' in the local transportation scene attend.

We have an active golfing group and the winners of the Harold Scott trophy represent the Region each year in the Locan Cup. The Region has won the Cup on numerous occasions!
