In 2015 CIHT’s 18 UK Branches were restructured to 12 Regions & Nations to match the boundaries of the Devolved Nations and the English Regions. On Monday 20th April 2015 the Northern Ireland Branch became CIHT Northern Ireland. CIHT Northern Ireland is highly active. Four technical meetings are held between November and March each year in Belfast including joint meetings with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Logistics and Transportation.
As Chair of the CIHT Northern Ireland region, I wanted to send a message to all local Highways & Transport professionals to encourage you to maintain and use your association with CIHT to help you through the difficult time that we are all experiencing at the moment. Whether you are working from home or currently furloughed, it’s really important that you stay connected and keep up to speed with what’s going on in the sector and your local area so that you can carry on with your career development post-Covid 19.
You may have noticed that CIHT is offering more CPD webinars which will keep you informed and support your professional development. We are providing regular updates on the state of the sector and up the minute news on our website which is transport specific.
For those who have yet to re-new their membership this year, I understand that paying your membership subscription may not be a priority, or may be financially difficult right now, but CIHT is committed to supporting everyone in the sector through this time. How? Firstly, by waiving the reinstatement fee and secondly by having conversations with members about payment options and taking advantage of the concessionary subscription rate. The membership team (firstname.lastname@example.org) would be pleased to hear from you.
Remember, CIHT is your membership body and it is here to help you.
In addition to our technical events a lunchtime meeting is held in the West or North of the Province. This usually takes the form of a lecture followed by a lunch. Technical seminars are also held biennially with the co-operation of the local universities and other professional institutions.
The Region has a Social Evening each year to which members, guests and partners are invited. The Annual Dinner is held in March with over 300 sitting down to celebrate the year's achievements. The Dinner is the highlight of the year and many 'movers and shakers' in the local transportation scene attend.
We have an active golfing group and the winners of the Harold Scott trophy represent the Region each year in the Locan Cup. The Region has won the Cup on numerous occasions!
