CIHT 500 Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions (the "Terms") govern the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) member referral scheme CIHT 500 (the "Scheme") which is applicable to members of CIHT who introduce non-members to the organisation. By participating in the Scheme, members and new members (as defined below) agree to comply with these Terms. 

Interpretation: 

The following definitions and rules of interpretation apply to these Terms. 

Application Form” the online application form used by prospective members to apply to become a member. 

Member” a member of CIHT holding a current valid membership. 

New Member” a Prospective member who becomes a member.  

Nomination” the act of naming a prospective member under the ‘recommend a colleague field in the Application Form, and the terms “nominate”, “nominated” or “nominates” shall be construed accordingly.    

Prospective Member” a legal person who is applying to become a member.  

Eligibility:  

The Scheme is exclusively for current CIHT members.  

To be eligible for the Prizes, a member must nominate a prospective member in the ‘refer a colleague Application Form’ as the Member who introduced or referred that Prospective Member to CIHT.  

Nominated members must be from the following paying grades only: 

  • Graduate 

  • Associate 

  • Member 

  • Fellow 

Members can nominate multiple new members using separate application forms. A Nomination shall only be valid if the Prospective Member has not previously been a Member at any time in the three years preceding the nomination.  Any nominations made to enrol a prospective member who has previously been a Member in the preceding three years shall be ineligible under the Scheme.  

Prizes

Other than the grand prize draw, a current member cannot win more than one prize per quarter. Members can win the prize applicable for the level of member nominations (1, 3+, 5 or 10) only once in the CIHT 500 2025 campaign. 

The value of the Prizes which the Nominated Member is eligible to receive is based on number of New Members elected.

Claiming Prizes 

Prizes shall be awarded to the nominating member upon the following taking place:  

 i. Acceptance by CIHT of the Prospective Member’s application; and 

ii. Payment by the New Member of their membership subscription fee (or any relevant instalment thereof); and  

iii. Expiry of the New Member’s 14-day cooling-off period, if the New Member elects to pay its membership fee by direct debit instalments. 

Quarterly Grand Prize Draw 

Each calendar quarter every member recruiting new members in that quarter will be given one entry per member recruited for a grand prize draw. 

The prize draw will be held in addition to the main prizes based on numbers of members recruited. 

The prize draw will be made and witnessed by CIHT staff using a random number generator. 

The 2025 Q4 draw will take place on Friday 28 November and the winner will be notified by email and or telephone. If the winner fails to respond within two working days a second winner will be drawn. If they fail to respond within two working days, the prize will be forfeited.  

The prize of two tickets to the 2025 annual luncheon is exclusive of any travel arrangement costs, drinks and gratuities. No alternative is offered to Great Britain mainland residents. 

Winners who are residents of Northern Ireland or overseas can select two tickets to a CIHT regional event taking place in 2026.    

Non-transferable 

Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or any other form of credit. 

Changes to Scheme 

CIHT reserves the right to modify or terminate the Scheme at any time without notice.  

CIHT may amend these Terms, and such amendments will be effective upon posting on the official CIHT website. 

Compliance with Laws:  

Members must comply with all applicable laws and regulations in connection with their participation in the Scheme, including but not limited to the Bribery Act 2010. 

Disqualification 

CIHT reserves the right to disqualify any Member from the Scheme if they are found to be in violation of these Terms or engage in fraudulent activities.   

Disqualification results in the loss of any awarded Prizes. 

Limitation of Liability 

Notwithstanding any other provisions in these Terms, so far as is permitted by law, CIHT’s liability under or in connection with these Terms shall not exceed the value of the Prizes awarded to the Member to which the liability relates. 

Assignment 

Members and New Members shall not assign or deal in any other manner with any or all their rights and obligations under these Terms without CIHT’s prior written consent. 

CIHT may at any time assign or deal in any other manner with any or all its rights and obligations under these Terms.  

Entire Agreement 

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between CIHT and the Members and/or New Members and supersedes and extinguishes all previous agreements and understandings between them, whether written or oral, relating to their subject matter. 

Waiver 

A waiver of any right or remedy is only effective if given in writing. A delay or failure to exercise any right or remedy shall not waive that or any other right or remedy. 

Severance 

If any section of these Terms is or becomes invalid, illegal or unenforceable, it shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid, legal and enforceable. If that modification is not possible, the relevant section shall be deemed deleted. Any modification to or deletion of a section shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the rest of these Terms. 

Third Party Rights 

No one other than a party to these Terms shall have any right to enforce any of the Terms. 

Governing Law 

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes arising out of or in connection with the Scheme shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. 

By participating in the Scheme, members and new members acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to abide by these Terms.
