The Membership Applications Panel (MAP) is authorised to confer Fellowship on individuals working in highways and transportation who have demonstrated professional excellence through significant and sustained contributions to the sector.
Panel members assess applications using CIHT’s Fellowship attributes framework, ensuring applicants show influence, leadership, and impact in their field.
The Panel operates with fairness, impartiality, and integrity, upholding CIHT’s values and professional standards.
The Membership Application Panel operates under the authority of the Membership and Member Services Strategic Board (MMSSB).
The Panel reports annually to MMSSB, with the Chair presenting the report at the first meeting of the year.
The Membership Applications Panel will:
Review and assess Fellowship applications, ensuring evidence of the required attributes (e.g. leadership, technical achievement, contribution to the profession, commitment to inclusion, and ongoing professional development).
Ensure all selection processes are transparent, fair and unbiased.
Notify the Membership team of the list of new Fellows immediately following a decision.
Submit an annual report to the MMSB on MAP activities.
Follow the agreed MAP procedure for evaluating applications. In the absence of consensus, the Panel Chair holds the deciding vote.
The Panel comprises a Chair and a flexible number of members, a minimum of 5 members.
All members must be Fellows of CIHT and reflect the diversity of CIHT’s membership.
Representation should cover a broad spectrum of professional backgrounds, including traditional and emerging areas of highways and transportation.
Composition aims for inclusive representation in terms of geography, sector, and career experience.
Panel members will:
Review applications confidentially and thoroughly, using CIHT’s published Fellowship attributes.
Participate in discussions to reach agreement on recommendations for Fellowship.
Promote Fellowship within the sector, support talent identification, and foster inclusion across CIHT grades.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection regulations throughout the process.
Refer to CIHT’s official Fellowship guidance as the primary basis for decisions.
Where appropriate, assist in identifying how new Fellows can contribute to CIHT’s work and outreach.
Members are appointed on a three-year term and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.
This may be extended by one more term in exceptional circumstances.
