The second 2026 session for the decarbonisation of road infrastructure community of interest group was focussed on Live Labs 2 and an overview of the programme’s key outputs.
Giles Perkins of GageCo and Live Labs 2 Programme Director, presented an overview of the Live Labs 2 programme and projects. The programme is focussed on decarbonising local roads to support a strategic and integrated approach to decarbonising the network assets.
Seven projects across four thematic areas have been carried out, undertaking carbon baselines of different types and with everything measured to show the carbon benefits of doing things differently. Collectively they have built a portfolio of methodologies, products and services which have been monitored and evaluated. This monitoring and evaluation will continue to be for a further five years to understand the impacts the programme has had on the industry.
Now in year 4 of the programme, the emphasis is to amplify and accelerate the project, lessons learnt and successes. The projects are:
Ten strategic interventions have come out of the programme and 40-50 tactical interventions all of which are ready for adoption and will improve efficiencies in service delivery.
As a follow up to this session, there is a planned workshop on 8th September in which attendees will take a deeper dive into the three projects chosen by the group during this June session.
