The CIHT kindly host these meetings, which provide the opportunity for the STBs to share knowledge and experience amongst themselves, as well as the opportunity for them to engage with DfT, Highways England, Office of Road and Rail, and Network Rail.

A key issue for all of the STBs is the importance of making the case for investment in infrastructure and services. There is common cause here and with the spending review pushed back to early 2020 they’ll be pushing for decisions on the first 5-year Major Road Network programme to be announced without delay.

At the same time the STBs are seized by the importance of ensuring that their Transport Strategies meet the challenge of enabling growth in ways that reduces the environmental impact of our transport system. As strategic bodies the STBs are exercising their ability to act as thought leaders and push the policy agenda – not just being advocates of change but agents of it.
