“Stromeferry Bypass- Stage 2 Assessment, Project Update”
Speaker - David Taylor URS
The existing Stromeferry Bypass alongside the southern shore of Loch Carron has been subject to a number of landslide and rock fall events causing temporary closures, requiring a 130 mile diversion. During the 1990s, several feasibility studies were undertaken to identify potential solutions. In response to a more recent rock fall event which closed the road for several months, a further appraisal was commissioned. A Stage 2 route appraisal of nine options emerging from a Stage 1 study in May 2013 is currently underway in order to identify one preferred route.
David Taylor is URS’s Project Manager working to The Highland Council responsible for delivering the Option Appraisals for the project. He will describe the challenges to date and the various solutions that have been developed.
The Annual General Meeting for the North Branch will follow on at the conclusion of the above meeting. CIHT President Sheila Holden will attend and provide an update on the Headquarters Branch Review. We hope that you will attend.
