Subject: Air Pollution as a Wider Environment Issue - From a Law Perspective

The UK failed to meet legal limits of air pollution in 2010. Under current plans by the UK Government London will not meet these until 2025 at the earliest. However, it is likely that the capital will continue to break legal limits for many more years unless urgent and bold action is taken. The Mayor of London has made tackling air pollution one of his top priorities, and with road transport a major source of pollution he has the powers to do this. He has already started consulting on his proposals for cleaning up London’s air but will he be bold enough?

Speaker: Andrea Lee

Andrea Lee is the Healthy Air campaigner for environmental law organisation ClientEarth, who will be challenging the UK Governemnt at the High Court on 18-19 October over their failure to comply with legal limits of air pollution.  She is campaigning for implementation of a national network of Clean Air Zones and also coordinates the national Healthy Air Campaign.  She has over ten years' experience of working on sustainability projects and campaigns across the voluntary and puiblic sectors.  Before joining ClientEarth, Andrea was working on sustainable transport behavoir change projects.
