An overview of the BAMFerrovialKier Crossrail contracts

Our next event will be a presentation titled 'An overview of the BAMFerrovialKier Crossrail contracts' which will be presented by James Martin of Kier Infrastructure.  

Information about the speaker:
James has been employed by Kier Construction (now Kier Infrastructure) for the last 16 years. During that period he has worked on Nuclear storage and decommissioning contracts at Sellafield, on the Channel Tunnel Rail link and at the West Burton Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power station in Retford.  He has worked overseas in Kier’s three principal territories; as Construction Manager finalising the construction of the Sandals Grand Antigua hotel in the Caribbean, as Engineering Manager undertaking buried infrastructure works in Dubai and as Construction Manager in Hong Kong commencing works on the C824 MTR contract ‘Nau Ta Mey to Tai Kong Po’ tunnels. On returning to the UK he worked on the refurbishment of the Main Train Shed roof at London Kings Cross station and now holds the position of Head of Technical Services for the Crossrail contracts undertaken by the BAMFerrovialKier JV.

Information about the presentation:
The presentation will provide an overview of the three Crossrail contracts that BAMFerrovialKier JV were awarded concentrating on the technical aspects of the delivery.
The presentation will include:
• An overview of the Crossrail route and contract split
•  How BFK value engineered the delivery of the three contracts including details of the ‘TBM first method’
• Disposal routes for TBM arisings including the replacement of road wagons with rail wagons
• Station excavations using the Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) method, incorporating both sprayed and cast in situ secondary linings
• Settlement monitoring and the use of compensation grouting to mitigate surface settlements
• The jacking of Lindsey Street Bridge
• Permanent works design for Farringdon station and the use of BIM to assist with asset data collection and the provision of the digital railway

The presentation will be preceded by the last East Anglian AGM before the Branch becomes part of the East of England Branch following the CIHT Branch Review. This should only take about 10 minutes.
