Subject: Breakfast Event - What Makes a City Walkable?

Susan Claris will present the elements of what makes a walkable city drawing from her experience in the field and based on the Cities Alive: Towards a walking world research. She will give an insight on the walkability of cities – a very basic part of transport that is usually neglected - as well as case studies of successful examples. The presentation will be followed by a workshop exercise where participants will be given an example street and suggest ideas of improving the walkability.

The session will be used to generate discussion between members on what they think the issues and priorities are when planning for walking.
