The introduction of a Car Club Network
Jon Little, Project Centre’s Head of Parking and Sustainable Transport will be talking about the implementation of car club networks. The presentation will focus on the development of car club networks, the benefits they can bring, the different models available and how they can play a vital role in transport provision, both in urban and rural settings.
It will also discuss how car clubs can be used to manage parking, the practicalities of introducing car club bays, freeing up kerbside space and where the car club industry may be heading.
Jon Little joined Project Centre in June 2007 and is an acknowledged expert in sustainable transport, particularly the introduction of car club networks. He is regularly asked to give presentations to national and international conferences and is involved in a number of EU funded knowledge sharing projects. Jon and his team have helped consult on and introduce over 500 car club parking bays, more than any other team in the UK. Jon has been rewarded for his work in car clubs at the London Transport Awards where in 2008 he won partnership of the year with Islington Council and Streetcar (now Zipcar). He also introduced the first pay as you go van in the UK in 2007.
More recently Jon led Project Centres design team which successfully delivered over 650 cycle hire docking stations across London for the first and second phases of the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme and continues to help local authorities introduce on-street car club schemes and other sustainable transport initiatives. Prior to this, Jon worked in a partnership team at Islington Council where he helped introduce the Council’s Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) programme and the matchday parking scheme for Arsenal FC’s Emirates Stadium.
