The standard approach to travel planning based on the DfT “Smarter Choices” guidance has served UK transport planners well for many years but there are concerns that the mode shiftwhich can be achieved is often insufficient and not sustainable over time. As techniques are refined can we learn from other sectors, such as economics, environment, health and marketing; and can what we learn also be applied to energy, water and waste challenges?
