This is a joint event between the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), ICE East Midlands Transport Professional Interest Network (PIN), and the Nottingham, Leicester, Derby (NLD) Branch. The support of Stephenson College is gratefully acknowledged.
It will start with a presentation by Jennifer Schooling on recent developments in infrastructure monitoring, the technology available, and why this approach will become increasingly important. Paul Clarke will then describe the innovative approach used to monitor tunnel movement during recent electrification and track renewal works
in Box Tunnel on the Great Western mainline.
A breakout session will follow where attendees will be divided into three groups to discuss future monitoring needs for infrastructure, including potential barriers to implementation. Each group will consider either use in design (including site investigation), use during construction, or use for long term asset management.
