This year, CIHT will be returning to hosting our Learned Society Lecture in April.
Due to the Pandemic, we have not been able to host this event in recent years, so we look forward to welcoming our Members and Partners back to this renowned event.
The 45-minute lecture will be delivered by Professor Nick Tyler FCIHT of University College London where he will be presenting on the topic of 'mindful mobility'.
Schedule:
This lecture is free for all CIHT Members to attend and is charged for Non-Members and Partner Employees.
Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment. We will not be taking walks in's on the day.
Mindful Mobility: Making sense of Moving
This talk considers how we use sensory information to create the perceptions that drive our choices about moving around. It will raise questions about how we model, understand, design and operate mobility systems so that they fit better for the purpose of supporting society.
Professor Nick Tyler will explain how the brain combines information from multiple senses to create perceptions of the world, on which we base our actions. This affects how a person thinks about and uses mobility systems throughout their life, and so is fundamental to understanding why and how we move. The talk will explain how these processes work in the context of the urban world and then suggests implications for how we should design and operate mobility systems to work better for people and the planet.
A key takeaway is that we need to understand how the mind influences our mobility choices, so raises the importance of behavioural analysis in the way we look at mobility and transport.
