This event will discuss the current and future skills constraints in the transport and infrastructure industry. We will debate how the industry is responding to these constraints and emerging concerns and how the industry is planning to tackle these challenges and obstacles. We will also cover how companies and other countries internationally are pivoting accordingly to improve their resilience to future constraints and what we could learn to apply here in the UK.

This event is aimed at practitioners and educators in the Transportation industry and policy makers in the construction & engineering educational fields. We welcome those who are in the early years of their careers through to industry experts. This is a great networking opportunity to connect with likeminded professionals who share an interest on the subject.

Deborah Sims
Lecturer at the University of Greenwich
Deborah Sims is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of CIHT, Deborah worked in both the public and private sector for over 25 years as a highway engineer specialising in road safety and asset management. For the past 10 years she has been an academic in the School of Engineering of the University of Greenwich at Medway, focussing on Engineering Professional Skills, Construction Management & Technology, and Highway Engineering. Deborah is the employability champion for engineering and has contributed to the development of the university’s assessment policy, and the employability, professional registration, and industrial aspects of a new university wide curricula. She has been a member of CIHT for over 30 years and has sat on numerous committees, working groups and panels, and served as a professional reviewer since 2003. Currently she is a Trustee and immediate past President.

Kate Myers
Director and Expert Adviser, Capacity Building at Crossrail International
Kate is an inspirational leader with over 20 years’ experience in government and major projects including social impact through jobs & skills, stakeholder & public relations, communications, delivery, policy and strategy. She has a track record of building strong and collaborative relationships across organisations and the wider construction & infrastructure industry to deliver social value.
