The CIHT’s new course ‘Designing highways and transportation for people with dementia’ offers a new approach, hearing directly from people with dementia, considering experiences throughout journeys and exploring real actions that we can all take to involve and learn from people.
In this webinar we’ll hear from Andy Hyde who created the course content along with other contributors and experts in participative design. You'll hear about approaches that can help you to find the best problems to solve and to do so most effectively, by involving people with dementia.
There’s a significant overlap between social inclusion and our physical and mental health wellbeing, so providing equitable opportunities to travel plays an important role in our health and wellbeing. Ensuring equitable opportunities for everyone to travel is therefore essential.
We know that remaining active and connected, continuing to travel independently, plays a significant role in living well with dementia. We also know that the number of people being diagnosed is set to increase in the coming years. And while improving our knowledge about dementia is a positive step, the design and operation of our services and environments can only support people effectively through an appreciation of the impact that dementia can have on peoples’ lives and their travel experiences.
This webinar considers the possible impacts of current design of transport services and environments on people with dementia, some ideas for improvement and the role that they can play in helping transport professionals design more inclusive journeys for everyone.
It aims to:
This webinar is open to both CIHT Members, CIHT Partner Employees and non-members. It will be of particular interest to those wanting to learn about how to make transport more inclusive and how to meaningfully deliver effective participation.
This webinar is free for all CIHT Members to attend and is charged for CIHT Partner Employees and non-members.
Andy Hyde
Andy has over two decades of experience of supporting public bodies to work with communities, tackle inequalities and design better services together. He spends a lot of time wondering how and why we’ve built services and environments that don’t work for many people, aiming to join unexpected dots, convene decision-makers, service providers and marginalised communities and create methods and spaces for them to imagine alternative, more inclusive futures together. He launched Go Upstream in 2018 to find new ways to support service providers to discover and value the expertise of those who are disabled and disadvantaged by our mobility systems.
