GoToWebinar: Join us as CIHT North East & Cumbria hold a virtual Award Ceremony to recognise local projects that have made a positive contribution to the industry during the pandemic. There will also be a presentation from Transport North East.
As one of our first events of 2021, we are launching our virtual awards ceremony. Whilst we weren’t able to host a ceremony in 2020, we do want to recognise the excellent work that has continued, so we are hosting a short virtual awards ceremony early this year to recognise local projects that have made a positive contribution to the industry during the pandemic. The awards will be presented by CIHT President, Martin Tugwell.
There will be announcements of the nominations and winners for the following three categories:
CIHT North East & Cumbria Young Professional Award
CIHT North East & Cumbria Apprentice Award
CIHT North East & Cumbria Project of the Year
We will also be joined at the event by representatives from Transport North East who will also talk about the soon to be released North East Transport Plan. Transport North East oversees strategic transport planning at a regional level on behalf of the North East Joint Transport Committee, representing the seven local authorities in our region. The talk will focus on the North East Transport Plan which aims to move the region towards our vision of “Moving to a green, healthy, dynamic and thriving North East”.
Our speakers will set out the main aims, objectives and policy areas of the Transport Plan which covers the next 15 years and aim to share their ambitions for the North East and would welcome any feedback attendees wish to give.
All those working in the highways and transportation industry in the North East.
Philip Meikle, Transport Strategy Director at Transport North East
Philip Meikle is an advocate of public transport to the extent he does not own a car. Throughout life, he has been fortunate enough to use the Tyne and Wear metro to education, to football, to family events and to work.
His transport career began on the frontline of the rail industry: in call centres, as a guard and in control rooms. Afterwards he became involved in specifying Rail franchises for central government, being Head of Performance for the UK’s most extensive train operating company and leading business improvement projects in bus companies internationally at a transport owning group level. He then returned to the UK rail industry to act in a business strategy role.
He is proud to return to his North East roots, to lead the plans for “more metro” service expansion, to reinforce and enhance the value of the local bus network and, through greater devolution, better integrate local rail services into the North East transport provision to grow our economy, improve our environment and allow our communities to succeed.
Andrew Dorrian, Transport Planner at Transport North East
A chartered Town Planner and member of the Transport Planning Society Andrew is a Specialist Transport Planner at the Transport North East. He works in Transport and Infrastructure planning developing Transport for the North’s plans and proposals within the North East, liaison with the National Infrastructure Commission, preparing major funding bids and developing regional policy and strategy.
Prior to joining the Transport North East, Andrew spend six years at Transport for London in the Borough Planning working on planning applications and policies across South London. He also gained experience in TfL’s Commercial Development team.
Whilst in London Andrew was Chair of the RTPI region in 2016 and was Honorary Secretary prior to that. He is now the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer for RTPI North East and is a Planning Aid England volunteer, part of a team providing advice through PAE’s advice line service.
