This is an in person at the Peter Froggatt Centre, Queen’s University Belfast. Our speaker will discuss Decarbonised Transport in Northern Ireland – Next Steps. For event queries and booking queries, please contact: regions@ciht.org.uk
Transport is the largest single contributing sector to greenhouse gas emissions in the UK with levels remaining largely unchanged since 1990. Road transport is a significant source of pollutants (NOx and PM2.5) identified as being harmful to human health and the environment. With binding net zero emission targets by 2050, rapid transformations of technology and behaviour will be required to effectively decarbonise and reduce air pollutants.
Using a design sprint format, this interactive event will first consider the current state of affairs and develop solutions for the future of transport in Northern Ireland. The outcomes will inform the CIHT of likely future training provision for it’s members and also allow participants to reflect on how they can enable decarbonisation within their own roles.
Teresa McGrath, Research Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast
Teresa is a Research Fellow in Wright Technology and Research Centre, in in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast.
She completed her PhD in 2017 and has been described as a “carbon champion” working closely with SME/industry/commercial/charitable organisations to transfer research into practice. Most recently, she has worked on a number of decarbonisation projects including developing a framework for reporting greenhouse gas emissions of the entire Translink bus fleet.
She was a work package leader on the NI Green Seas project, examining the implementation of technologies such as hydrogen production via electrolysis and large-scale battery storage to decarbonise the maritime sector.
She is an advocate of the need for a systems based approach to effectively decarbonise society.
