The Partners Forum is a new initiative for 2021 and is open to all employees of CIHT Partner Organisations. The Forum is designed for a small group of representatives from Partner Organisations to come together to share views and opinion whilst discussing common industry issues and challenges.
Are we all speaking the same language when it comes to digital twins? Do BIM, smart cities and digital twin technology work together and how do they differ? How are we using this technology strategically, operationally, socially and for maintenance activity?
Within the sector there are currently various levels of understanding and different definitions when it comes to digital twins. In comparison to buildings, there is a degree of complexity within infrastructure which makes it more difficult to fully comprehend the potential of the technology.
Establishing some clarity on the outcomes expected from digital twins, what the needs of the end user are and how assessments will be done, will all help to create a shared vision for the sector and encourage collaboration on creating a foundation that works for all.
This Forum will discuss what digital twins means to them and how they are utilising the technology, the importance of not over-engineering but working to required outcomes, the need for standardisation and where the gaps in the technology exist that require further learning.
