CIHT London are delighted to welcome you this event with the City of London Corporation, exploring the past trends and future plans of City of London transport. This is an in-person event at the Guildhall, 25 spaces are available served on a first come first served basis.
This event is an opportunity to hear about the City of London’s ongoing evolution towards a lower traffic, people-oriented environment.
It will consider how the traffic mix and use of the City’s streets has changed over the last two decades, and how the City Corporation’s Transport Strategy is shaping the future of the Square Mile’s streets and public spaces.
Data collected last year has highlighted a dramatic growth in cycling in the last couple of years. This is the continuation of a longer-term trend with the number of people cycling in the City now six times higher than in 1999 while the number of motor vehicles has declined by 70% over the same period. Walking, wheeling and cycling now making up three quarters of observed travel activity (rising to 85% in peak hours).
This continued success is no accident and at this in-person event representatives from the City of London Corporation will discuss how their policies and projects over the years have shaped this part of London leading to the results experienced today.
The changing use of the City’s streets over the years will also be explained, identifying trends and how this informed policies and investment focused on walking, wheeling, cycling and public realm improvements.
All are welcome to attend and this event will be of particular interest to City Planners, Transport Planners, Policy Makers, Data Analysers, and Transport Managers involved or interested in strategy and projects to make streets more inclusive and attractive places to walk, wheel, cycle and spend time.
