This webinar will introduce An Introduction to Talking Climate, a practical guide produced by ADEPT in partnership with the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission, drawing on research from Climate Outreach's Britain Talks Climate and Nature 2025 toolkit. Speakers will outline why the guidance was developed, how the climate communication landscape has changed and key recommendations for public sector communicators.

Speaker details

Kate Lock

Kate Lock is Communications Manager for Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission and Leeds Climate Commission. She is based at the University of Leeds and has worked in a professional climate communications capacity for the past decade, originally for the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures and then for the UK Climate Resilience Programme and the Place-Based Climate Action Network (PCAN), where she helped to launch new climate commissions around the UK. A former journalist and author, she retrained in climate science and policy and combines hands-on communications experience and evidence-based insights in her work, specialising in storytelling and narrative change.

Emma Parker Reynolds

Emma is an Associate Director for Coast Communications, where she leads communications for the Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning and Transport (ADEPT). Throughout her career, Emma has developed a specialism in environment, climate and sustainability communications, working across the full spectrum from conservation and protected landscapes to energy transition, decarbonisation and climate action. A communications graduate and Accredited Practitioner of the Chartered Institute of PR, her professional background spans strategic communications, copywriting, media relations and stakeholder and community engagement.
