Claire Stocks is a Senior Strategy Officer for Transport at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Claire has 30 years experience of working in various roles across the media & communications, campaign and local government sectors.
She specialises in fields of sustainable transport, liveable neighbourhoods, walking, cycling (active travel), transport decarbonisation, community engagement, and collective action.
Now working at the GMCA supporting the Greater Manchester Mayor and Transport Commissioners delivering the integrated Bee Network, she is also a director of a community cargo bike scheme in her home town Manchester, and helps run activetravelcafe.org.uk, a weekly online forum sharing best practice on walking cycling and sustainable transport.
As a former BBC executive & journalist, Claire oversaw a variety of engaging, high-profile multimedia services during her 18-year-career across various roles in BBC News, BBC Sport & BBC Children's including for the London 2012 Olympics.
Kate Lock is Communications Manager for Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission and Leeds Climate Commission. She is based at the University of Leeds and has worked in a professional climate communications capacity for the past decade, originally for the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures and then for the UK Climate Resilience Programme and the Place-Based Climate Action Network (PCAN), where she helped to launch new climate commissions around the UK. A former journalist and author, she retrained in climate science and policy and combines hands-on communications experience and evidence-based insights in her work, specialising in storytelling and narrative change.
Emma is an Associate Director for Coast Communications, where she leads communications for the Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning and Transport (ADEPT). Throughout her career, Emma has developed a specialism in environment, climate and sustainability communications, working across the full spectrum from conservation and protected landscapes to energy transition, decarbonisation and climate action. A communications graduate and Accredited Practitioner of the Chartered Institute of PR, her professional background spans strategic communications, copywriting, media relations and stakeholder and community engagement.
Sophie is the Director of External Affairs at the Climate Change Committee (CCC). Sophie led the communications strategy for the publication of the Seventh Carbon Budget advice in the UK in February 2025. She is responsible for the strategy on providing advice to the UK Government on adaptation in May 2026, in the Well Adapted UK report. Before working at the CCC, she led external affairs for the international non-profit, Climate Group, with a particular focus on road transport. Whilst there, she worked on several national-scale campaigns for speeding up the transition to electric vehicles. Sophie sits on the steering group of the International Climate Council Network’s (ICCN); co-chair’s their Communications Working Group; and provides mentoring at I Have a Voice (IHAV). IHAV is a charity that helps young people from backgrounds under-represented in public affairs to find their way into employment.
